Subject: Support for a Queensland Stolen Generations Redress Scheme
Dear Minister Simpson,
I am writing to support the establishment of a comprehensive, Survivor-led Queensland Stolen Generations Redress Scheme.
Successive Queensland Governments authorised the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, cultures and Country, causing profound and lasting harm that continues across generations.
Queensland is now the only Australian jurisdiction without a dedicated Stolen Generations redress scheme, and many Survivors are ageing. I urge the Queensland Government to act without delay and establish a trauma-informed and culturally safe Scheme that includes meaningful reparations, access to records, family tracing and reunification support, and ongoing healing services.
Kind regards,
